Some Sewing Inspiration

There are heaps of photos of my recent trip to Glasgow to sort through, so I thought I would put up some pictures of pretty dresses first. These were all taken in the massive Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Manbacon and I spent hours there, and we didn't even see everything. It was fantastic, but exhausting. I felt rather 'museumed-out' at the end of our visit. Anyway, enjoy the dresses!

  1. Pretty textiles. Do you think they ever washed these dresses back in the day?

  2. Well, there were definitely no drycleaners around back then! I'm glad that the dresses were enclosed behind glass, now that you've mentioned the washing thing...

  3. Watteau pleats! Those dresses are so pretty and remind me of Marie Antoinette. When I was looking at portraits of her and other women of the time, I noticed they wore the bodices so low that the neckline functioned as an underwire, with the goods nearly resting on top of it, like a beer wench corset without the blouse. Kinda cool, although I'm not especially eager for the bare-nip look to make a comeback.

  4. Yeah I've noticed the low necklines in some portraits too, I guess the 'boobs on display' look is always gonna be in no matter where, no matter when.
